Vantage Towers and Sigfox Germany form strategic IoT partnership

Sigfox Germany will be able to expand its 0G network and deliver its IoT services to more places and more customers

  • Over 350 new Sigfox sites on Vantage Towers’ infrastructure in Germany in fiscal year 2022, ending 31 March 2022, and over 500 by the end of 2023
  • Agreement supports Vantage Towers’ goal to drive the digitalisation of the German economy and Sigfox Germany’s need for a fast and efficient 0G network rollout

Vantage Towers is one of the largest and most geographically diversified radio tower operators in Europe, with 82,000 sites in ten countries. In nine of the ten countries in which it operates, Vantage Towers is either the number one or number two operator in the market. Sigfox Germany operates the Sigfox 0G network in Germany, which currently comprises more than 4,800 sites, including micro sites. Sigfox’s 0G technology is a key driver for the digitalisation of the European economy.

Major customers such as Deutsche Post DHL, Siemens or Weber Betonwerke rely on Sigfox’s 0G network. 0G is suitable for large-scale, international deployment of low-data IoT applications, such as the tracking of rolling containers in warehouses or the automatic tracking of reusable packages that reduce customers’ carbon footprint. Due to its unique architecture, 0G technology networks millions of objects worldwide, drastically reducing energy consumption and the total cost of ownership of connected devices. Vantage Towers and Sigfox Germany have signed a 10-year framework agreement. Under the partnership, Sigfox Germany plans to lease over 350 Vantage Towers sites in Germany in the 2022 financial year and over 500 sites by the end of 2023.

Sonia Hernandez, Chief Commercial Officer of Vantage Towers: “The Internet of Things is a great opportunity for Europe and Vantage Towers wants to be at the forefront of its further development. The strategic partnership with Sigfox is a great example of how we are working with our customers and partner MNOs to achieve our mission. The strong demand for 0G network coverage and services from Sigfox is a driver for our expansion in our largest market, Germany.”

Thomas Scheibel, CEO of Heliot Europe and Sigfox Germany, said, “With 15,000 rooftop locations, very good and extensive coverage in Germany, competitive pricing and customised rollout services, Vantage Towers is our partner of choice for Sigfox Germany.” Heliot Europe CTO Jan John added: “This strong partnership with Vantage Towers will help us to deliver a reliable network service to our large customers much faster and improve the key success factors in our business: Performance, Scalability as well as Reliability.”

Badiaa Bazarbacha, Regional Head of Commercial Germany & Central Eastern Europe at Vantage Towers, said, “We have set a clear goal to be at the centre of the digital ecosystem, enabling digital solutions across all sectors and industries. As a reliable partner and using our excellent infrastructure, we are supporting Sigfox Germany to quickly and efficiently achieve the ambitious goal of integrating over 500 new locations into their network in the next three years.”
